Hello Lifegroup

Hi, i'm just testing to see how this works...dont mind me...Hello by the way :)

Wednesday, May 28, 2008

Welcome to our very first Life Group blog! What do you think of the blog idea? I think it was Emily who first thought of this for our LG as a way we could build friendships! Thanks Emily! I like her idea....as i think this platform could be used for spurring each other on in our spiritual lives, helping one another know God more intimately.

So it's not that I have too much time....

It was great that we all did the Part 2 series of knowing the Holy Spirit - the Baptism of the Holy Spirit together last night. We discussed some Frequently asked questions. It's a big topic to cover in one night but even though we didn't cover all the planned questions, it was good to hear and address the other questions from the group. Thus, the topic for the 1st blog!

Feel free to ask the questions you may have so that we can discuss and are all on the same page, agree with the right answers and also share our experiences. The reason is that there are lots and lots of answers that people can come up with...in fact, there are 447,000 sites on the baptism in the HS on google! Thus, there's a lot out there so it is important to know what is the TRUTH. Not just stuff we like to hear. Plus, Paul warns us in the Bible to be aware of false doctrine in the last days.

In summary, from last night:
  • All believers receive the Holy Spirit upon conversion.
  • There is a distinctive separable Baptism with the Holy Spirit experience which is available to all believers.
  • This may or may not occur at conversion.
  • One does NOT need to be baptised in the Holy Spirit to be a Christian, but it is taught to be of significant importance for effective ministry and living a dynamic Christian life.
  • One of the evidences of Baptism with the Holy Spirit would appear to be speaking tongues. We cannot say that it happened at every circumstance. See below for Luke's writings of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit:
